Give Thanks

Thanksgiving was at our house this year.  It was the first time I've ever hosted, but things went off without a problem. It was a smaller crowd than in years past, but that was fine with me for my maiden voyage.

I had to show off our fall table - before the feasting began.
Owen loved his turkey dinner.
When we weren't eating, Owen was the center of attention, and enjoyed being passed around from his granparents, aunts and uncles and great grandpa.

Eric had an exciting thanksgiving of his own. He hit Sears Thursday morning and brought this home just in time for the big meal and the big game. The Aggies won!

The Oslunds say goodbye to their 300 pound TV. (not sure why it's on BET)

And I realized I haven't talked about the dogs much lately - go figure. I'm not sure where Sophie was when I was taking pictures, but Shaddy and Sebastian got lots of attention and more than a few snacks.

8 months

A few updates on Owen at 8 months: He's broken the 25 pound mark! Owen is not a chubby kid (except for his cheeks) he's just really solid - everyone who holds him remarks on how "dense" he is. :-)

He also learned how to clap, can feed himself crackers and teething cookies, and can climb stairs all by himself!

He also would not stay still for pictures this month. The kid has 2 speeds - full throttle and asleep.

Enjoy :-)

And some of the lovely faces - this kid does not like the camera!

Finally!

My cool dude...

Who drools like none other!

Halloween

Here's our serious scarecrow - I had the hardest time getting him to smile the entire night. (This may have been because our entire family was recovering from a stomach bug he brought home from daycare earlier in the week.)

Owen won 3rd place in the preschool and under costume contest in our neighborhood. He scored a $5 Wall-mart gift-card, which daddy promptly confiscated. :-)

7 months old and mobile!

Once again Owen has reached a milestone right around his monthly birthday. About a week before he turned 7 months old he started crawling. He was pretty slow at first, but two weeks later he was picking up speed and pulling up on everything in sight! We had to lower his crib to the bottom level and baby-proof the house. Look out world - here comes Owen!

October in California

In mid-October Owen and I went to LA for a conference. Grandma Darlene came up from Fallbrook and babysat Owen at the hotel while I went to the conference during the day. When the conference was over we went down to Fallbrook to spend a few days with family. Owen hadn't seen many of them since he was 5 weeks old!

Owen and great-grandma Oslund

Uncle Marc's face was VERY interesting.

Brynn was showing Owen her reading skills.
Fallbrook also has an incredible pumpkin patch. We went by on Saturday morning and captured some great shots.

Later that night we carved an Owen-sized pumpkin. What a great weekend!

More at 6 months

I know this post is WAAAAY late, but hopefully you'll enjoy it belatedly.

A few days after Owen turned 6 months old we had his 6 month photo shoot at the house.  Here are some of my favorite pictures of my big boy.
This is Owen's serious face - doesn't he look inquisitive?

This is totally Owen - notice the drool spots on his shirt :)

Our boy loves to laugh - usually at mommy and daddy.
It's been an amazing 6 months, can't wait for the next 6!

6 Months Old

Time is flying - here's Owen at 6 months. He was not staying still for the camera :)

We went to the doctor on his birthday and here are his stats: He's a big boy!

Height - 28 inches - 95%
Weight - 20 pounds 4 ounces - 90%
Head - 44 cm - 80%

Owen's moving more and more. He's not crawling yet, but can scoot around on his tummy pretty good and is rolling all over the place. He has one tooth on the bottom and I think he may have another one coming in. He's still a great eater, but is wanting to nurse less and less which I'm not excited about.  He's also less interested in the bottles they give him at daycare.

The other big thing Owen's learned is how to splash. Bath times will never be the same :)

On the road again

In early September Owen and I flew up to Amarillo to visit the Burns side of the family. Thankfully my best friend Alicia came with us - she was a huge help on the plane while I was trying to juggle Owen and multiple bags.

I have to brag on Owen - he was Perfect! We drove 2 hours to the airport on Thursday and then were in the airport/plane for the next 4 hours. On Friday I took him by my old job to meet everyone and had lunch with some friends. Sunday we drove 3 hours to see my brother and his wife, went to church and then drove 3 hours back. Then on Monday we flew to Austin and drove home. Through all of this - AND CUTTING HIS FIRST TOOTH - Owen DID NOT CRY. Seriously. He may have gotten cranky for about 10 seconds a couple of times, but other than that he was such a trooper.  Full of smiles and laughs for everyone.

Two situations that illustrate how good he was - My brother is the preacher at a church in Altus OK. He talked about how cute Owen was from the pulpit so of course half the congretation had to come and meet Owen - he handled all this attention fine - even after the long morning of driving we'd had.
Next, in the plane on the way home the stewardess grabbed him from me, took him to the front of the plane and announced over the loud speaker that she had a new boyfriend :)  I thought he would freak out when he saw the plane full of people, but he was totally cool and a huge flirt.

Here are a few pics from our travels

Daddy's boy

This boy LOVES his daddy.  No one can make him smile bigger or laugh harder.

Daddy is getting his PhD and Texas A&M. Here's our little Aggie all dressed up for the start of college football. (Let's keep our fingers crossed that they actually have a decent season).

Daddy's favorite musician is Bob Marley.  Owen's been introduced to reggae at a young age. From the Bob Marley CD in his room to this stylish onesie, he'll be a Rastafarian before we know it

I had to include this shot - Owen usually has his hand crammed in his mouth. You'll see why in my next post :)

Five months old

My little boy is 5 months old!

Here are a few quick stats on Owen at 5 months - more for my benefit than anything

He is sitting up all by himself!  He's very stable and is reaching for toys and "usually" not falling over.

He's a big eater! Along with nursing, he has cereal and fruit every morning around 11am and usually finishes off a bottle afterward.  He has a BIG dinner at night of 2 vegetable and then yogurt, fruit and cereal. And then he nurses before bed! He eats carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, peas, avocado, corn, pears, peaches, apples, bananas, mangos, blueberries, yogurt and rice, oatmeal and barley cereal.

He does like his yogurt...with bananas. Yogurt and peaches is another story entirely :)

What a difference a week makes

Sorry it's been so long since I posted. Once again I have about two months of pictures I'm behind on.

A week after the last video I posted with Owen's sitting attempt - he did this!

It's amazing how fast he became a pro at sitting up by himself!

He's got skills

I can't believe how fast Owen is growing up.  He's been rolling over from tummy to back for a few months now, and is getting better at rolling from back to front. He's never happy laying on his back for long and always wants to be sitting or "standing" in your lap.

Eric captured his first attempt at sitting all by himself.  I love that he gets so excited at the end that he falls over :)

We're pretty sure he'll be sitting up all on his own before we know it!

Yum Yum

While grandma was here Owen had his first bite of "grown up" food.  We fed him avocado and he loved it!

Since then he's tried sweet potato, oatmeal, and apple sauce and loved them all.  His absolute favorite is when I mix the applesauce and oatmeal together - he has to "help" me hold the spoon when I feed him that so he can shovel it in as fast as possible :)

4 months

Here's our big boy on his 4 month birthday.  I love the surf shirt he's wearing.  Grandma Oslund brought it for him when she came to stay with us for a week.  Eric had to go to a training in D.C. for a week and she came down to help with Owen.  She was a lifesaver and I can't imagine how I would have managed the week without her!

At Owen's 4 month appointment he was 26.5 inches tall and 16 pounds 4 oz - he's a big guy!

Exersaucer!

One of Owen's favorite toys is his exersaucer.  He loved the one at daycare - I was told every day how much he enjoyed playing in it.  My Aunt Carolynn heard how much he loved it and sent us one for his very own!

He absolutely loves it and plays in it several times a day.  The video is from the first week he got it - he's more of a "pro" at all the different toys now :)

3 month photo shoot

Here are some of our favorite pics from Owen's 3 month photo shoot.
